You Need This: Church Bells

For anyone questioning the possible missing aspects of their already vibrant life I shall provide a suggestion. Once a week at 5.43am on a Sunday morning BBC Radio 4 plays "Bells on Sunday".

Yes, you heard me right! a radio show, just under four minutes long, chocked full of hardcore church bell ringing action.
The mere existence of this programme is enough to warrant a smile on my face. For the sake of their listener figures, I beg of you, give four minutes of your time to this worthwhile cause.

Listen to some ding-dong church bells!

Connoisseurs will be pleased to know the bells this week are only a few minutes drive away from my location: St. Mary's Parish Church, Illmington - in Warwickshire. They know their bells down there, they're not mucking around!

Illuminate: London

Starting off Urban Monday is Flickr user Rija with this lucid dream The City Beyond Blackfriars Bridge:

The City Beyond Blackfriars Bridge

Phase Two: Cityscapes And People

You've had Landscapes, you've had Greyscale, here are the next visual outings:

Urban Monday
Photogenic cityscapes, skylines, world architecture and decorative decay - showing beauty in unexpected places.

The People's Thursday
Everything human; Photography that centres around people, their actions, their emotions.

As always, if something catches your eye for either of these categories, scrawl me a quick mail with the address.
We are in a new week.

Recap: Landscape Monday

Offered to you as the pretty view the beginning of your week was perhaps missing, Landscape Monday comprised a total of thirteen posts.

I'd like to comment at this point that there are some incredible photographers capturing views on a daily basis serving them straight onto their websites for all to see. It is these photobloggers that are something special, mixing the beauty of a fantastic view, with the immediacy of the internet. I make little secret of my favourites, my posts are full of them.

This is the second, and final, of my 2004 feature recaps:

Have a suitably pleasing weekend.

Recap: Greyscale Wednesday

Everything has its season, its phase of glory, and ultimately, it's conclusion. Greyscale Wednesday generated a consistent interest both online and off, for that I'm grateful to you all.

Here is a quick recap of fourteen weeks worth of photography, if you missed any: consider this your lucky day.

I Don't Care About The Air

The first of my United States inspired postings is on our environment and the vehicles with which we traverse it.

The difference quoted between driving an "average family car" and a "high performance SUV" is the same amount of energy as:

  • Leaving your refrigerator door open for 6 years
  • Leaving your bathroom light on for 30 years
  • Leaving a colour television turned on for 28 years!

Some people take this seriously and are prepared to drive more economical vehicles rather than have us all choke in the remains of a planet. Examine I Don't Care About The Air for yourself, develop an opinion if you don't have one.

It isn't about hatefully attacking the SUV phenomena, but instead improving what is presently sold; Why not have a Better SUV.

    A Little Joy For Today

I want to wish you all the best as we reach the end of this first week of 2005. Whether you make a self-improvement resolution, or whether you avoid such formality, may the new year further bring you that which you desire.

A comment by Maria pointed me to the inspirational A Little Joy For Today. Don't take my word for it's value, it's nominated in The Best Of Blogs "Most Inspirational Blog" category.

..and yes, I have returned from the United States, thanks for the best wishes mails
