What is RSS?

I have been asked as to the meaning of the small XML button in the right menu of this website, I felt it worth writing a few brief lines to explain.

There is a "new" method of getting the information you want from the web without having to crawl around all your favourite websites one by one. In order to do this you need an RSS News Reader.

You can quickly download one, Here for PCs or Here for Macs. Once installed fire up the news reader and add the address the XML button on my page is pointing to. (http://feeds.feedburner.com/Sirharris)

From then on you will never need to launch your browser and come to here to check if I've updated, you shall instead be informed automatically... such is the magic of RSS. This process saves you time and helps get the most interesting content from each moment you spend online.

Without Sanctuary

"Searching through America's past for the last 25 years, collector James Allen uncovered an extraordinary visual legacy: photographs and postcards taken as souvenirs at lynchings throughout America."

Whilst the gallery, entitled "Without Sanctuary" is predominantly aimed at an adult audience the works on display have been deemed suitable for general viewing in public galleries across America. The material is uncompromising but suitable for general audiences with parental supervision.

Additionally a detailed analysis of this gallery is available online at the Metro Times Detroit.

Mark Tucker

My second site of interest today also came from one of my daily favourites J-Walk Blog.

The photographic work of Mark Tucker is presented linked below. His pieces are varied and compelling, my own highlights being his work in Berlin/Prague and the Personal Landscape gallery.

Where Are You Taking Me!?

I'd suggest any questions you have should be directed to the AnswerBag, an excellent source of peace for inquisitive minds.
Just choose a category and browse the questions, you can only find something that will fascinate you.

The McCulloch Effect

I have always been interested in the little tricks we can play on our perception, this link is an excellent example. Follow their supplied instructions carefully or you may not see the full effect.

Michael Moore

A link is provided below to an exert of the book "Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man", spare a moment, read the section provided, establish your opinion.

Exerted

I'll disclaim right now that, as with anything of this nature, you are more than capable of deciding as to what you consider "truth". I personally feel most is gained through a balanced discussion. Moore presents an unashamedly bias portrayal in his films. The authors of this book have a similarly aggressive viewpoint from the offset.

They Work For You

Loathing to be someone late to be informed about something so interesting, I offer to you:

"Everything MPs say in the House of Commons is recorded in a document called Hansard. TheyWorkForYou.com helps make sense of this vital democratic resource and, crucially, allows you to add your own comments and links to the official transcripts of Parliament."

Enter your postcode and find out everything your MP has, or hasn't, done for you.

International

At the risk of this site becoming a mere paraphrased representation of Grow-A-Brain it just happened a page of links were devoted to all things "foreign".

Here are my favourites:
The very funny Transatlantic Dictionary

First example:
- Action v. to perform a task, as in "I need a coupla pie charts. Can you action that for me, buddy."

Next is the Speech Accent Archive". If I had any less literary integrity I may dare to comment the title "speaks for itself".

Lastly is Passports of the World", to satisfy your curiosity over the design used on the Mongolian passport.

No More Logging In

Whilst reading one of my favourites: Grow-A-Brain I noticed this link to a site named "Bug Me Not".

"BugMeNot.com was created as a mechanism to quickly bypass the login of web sites that require compulsory registration and/or the collection of personal/demographic information (such as the New York Times)."
