Sleeping By The Mississippi

Presented in the Stephen Wirtz Gallery is an interesting series of photopraphs by Alec Soth. If you feel like clicking make sure to look past the initial image on the introduction and into the rest of his works. The prints entitled "Saint Genevieve" and 'Cemetery, Fountain. City" are personal favourites.

True Meaning: "festival"

BBC News reported on the annual "Cannabis Festival", covering the concerns of the public beforehand, the actions of the police during and the general atmosphere of those attending the event...

...all one of them.

The man, who wished to be identified only as Mark, told BBC WM: "Cannabis users aren't the fastest starters, are they?"

Playful Dog

I found reference to this news piece on The Great News Network. You have to admit the story is "cute", as long as you don't allow yourself to speculate on how it may of alternatively ended.

Camera Obscura

An interesting little essay on, quite likely, a grossly undervalued creative pioneer.

Daily Dose Of Imagery

I had to make a quick post to let you know of a favourite photography site "Daily Dose Of Imagery".

Gaze

If you haven't heard the Kings of Convenience's down-tempo latest "Riot on an empty street" I'd recommend you have a listen... if you like that subtle acoustic guitar sound (maybe you don't).

Commute: New York City

"Every day more than six million people use the New York City transit system - Approximately 2 billion customers annually"

This gallery is a photographic project elegantly presenting NYC's underground (and above ground) in a modern art context.

Movies To Prove A Point

The next time you are thinking "I need a movie to demonstrate coherent time travel in a causal loop" or "wow I could really do with watching a film illustrating the issues of Christian mind-body dichotomy" dive straight over to Movies by Philosophical Theme.

Another Casualty Of Marketing

"For the millions of blind and visually impaired Internet users around the world, using text-to-speech software is often the only way to check e-mail. But as the spam problem gets worse, more and more of those users are finding that having their e-mail read aloud can be a minefield. Listening to the next message in the inbox may reveal an important letter from an old friend or, more often, an embarrassing ad for penis-enhancement therapy."

Shameful.

The News You Don't Know

Lifted from a favourite site of mine, the Great News Network:
"Afghan voter registration passes 3.5 million mark, UN mission says. More than 3.5 million Afghans have registered to vote, nearly 35 per cent of them women, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported."

With the ridiculous (taken from bbc.co.uk):
"Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams would look 'very seriously' at an invitation to appear on animated comedy The Simpsons. The Sunday Times reported the show's producers were poised to invite the head of the Church of England on to the animated show. "Dr Williams has admitted he is a big fan of the show."

Paper / Scissors / Stone

I couldn't resist a chance to inform you of "The Southwestern U.S. Pro-Am Rock Paper Scissors Invitational" listed in sfweekly.com.
It's pleasing to see it gives the psychology of the game ( "sport"!?) the in-depth analysis I always felt it should receive.

As stated: "the choices are limited, the competition fierce"

Here's To Defying Statistics

If you have strayed to this corner of the web you are used to me and my endless list of fallible internet projects. I have been lucky in the past to share my creations with such an extraordinary collection of people.

With any luck this web diary can provide you with interest as we share those idle moments.

You encouraged my opinion, I assumed you'd read - it's an agreement we have.
