Modern Wonder 5: Itaipu Dam

Today we travel to the border between the South American nations of Brazil and Paraguay, it's number five of our Seven Modern Wonders - the Itaipu Dam:

Since completion in 1977, over 12 million visitors have come to see The "Usina Hidrelétrica Itaipu Binacional", the largest operational hydroelectric power plant in the world. 8km in length, Itaipu currently produces 90 million megawatt-hours per year. That supplies 95% of the energy needs for Paraguay and 24% for Brazil. To put that into perspective, that single dam provides the electricity for close to 51 million people - with substantial upgrades planned for this year to increase output.

Hi! I'm Giselle Rossi and here is my picture.

Thank you for visiting Giselle. I hope you do not mind my putting your work on display. It's by far one of best pictures of the Itaipu Dam I could find.

It was a pleasure!!!!
